Enable Repair Mode Before Handing Over Your Device
Planning to give your device for repair? Whether it's a phone or laptop, your personal data might be at risk. Thankfully, many modern devices now support a Repair Mode that protects your privacy while allowing technicians to test hardware safely.
๐ What is Repair Mode?
Repair Mode is a privacy feature that temporarily restricts access to your personal files, messages, apps, and accounts while still allowing hardware testing. It’s especially useful when handing your phone or laptop to a technician.
๐ ️ How to Enable Repair Mode on Samsung Phones (One UI 5.0+)
- Go to Settings → Battery and Device Care
- Tap the three-dot menu (⋮) → Repair Mode
- Follow the on-screen instructions to reboot into Repair Mode
- Your data will be hidden until you exit the mode
๐ป On Windows Laptops or PCs
While Windows doesn't have a direct "Repair Mode," you can create a Guest Account or enable Safe Mode with Networking:
- Press Windows + I → Accounts → Family & other users
- Add a standard user account with no admin rights
- Use that profile before handing over your system
๐ฑ Tips for Other Android Phones
Other Android phones may not have a native Repair Mode. To secure your data:
- Back up your data to Google Drive or PC
- Sign out of accounts or enable Guest Mode
- Remove your SD card and SIM
✅ Final Checklist Before Repair
- Enable Repair Mode (if available)
- Back up important data
- Remove passwords or accounts if necessary
- Take photos of your device’s current condition
By enabling Repair Mode or taking precautions, you protect your personal data and reduce the risk of misuse during the repair process.
